APAP Special edition newsletter on International Landscape Day

It is my pleasure to inform you that our Portuguese member, APAP – Associação Portuguesa dos Arquitectos Paisagista, issued its special edition of newsletter. I am attaching the message from Jorge Cancela, the President.

“Dear Colleagues, Dear Friends,

We wanted to celebrate the Second International Landscape Day of the Council of Europe on 20 October with a news that everyone is waiting for: the Public Petition in which we all committed ourselves to the regulation of our profession and the creation of the Order of Landscape Architects) is already in the Assembly of the Republic for scheduling discussion.

4717 signatures were collected and validated. We now follow the meetings with the various parliamentary groups to present the subject, hoping to merit their favorable position for further discussion and voting in Parliament. After that, we will certainly celebrate the goal achieved!

It is important, therefore, that we begin to discuss what OAP can and should become. Particularly important is the issue of separate or joint Order with fellow Architects. At the Congress of the Order of Architects on October 26 in Lagoa, this subject will be discussed in the form of a motion, where we will be present as observers and participants in the debate. We must then, APAP AP, in the General Assembly, discuss this matter, which we know not to be consensual, but which is given the time to discuss in depth. The discussion has to be done on the basis of solid arguments, pros and cons of each position, to achieve the most balanced solution that best serves the interests of the profession.

So we can guess the very important future moments for all of us and the profession we love. Participation is going to be, more and more, fundamental. As always, I count on all of you. We will continue to give news. And please, any doubt, sharing or clarification about these (or other) subjects do not inhibit them from putting them, we are here to represent you.

A Happy Day of Landscape and Landscape-Architecture!”
