It is the aim of IFLA Europe to recognise the work of exceptional people who believe that our way of perceiving and understanding the world – derived from our profession – could contribute to its development. This year we presented our Award to Europa Nostra. The Award was received on behalf of Europa Nostra by John Sell, Executive Vice President, at the IFLA Europe General Assembly, which took place in Bucharest, Romania, 1-4 June 2017.
IFLA EUROPE feels close to the work and objectives and the efforts of Europa Nostra in raising awareness about the intrinsic value of cultural heritage and the need to protect it. IFLA EUROPE and its members realise fully the importance of the work of Europa Nostra and through the European Heritage Alliance 3.3 project, we are partners in promoting the potential of Europe’s heritage, cultural and natural as well sustainable development and quality standards in urban and rural planning.
We believe that IFLA EUROPE can work more closely with Europa Nostra in obtaining mutually shared objectives. Cultural heritage is a key asset to Europe’s society and economy, and is essential to our identity and quality of life. IFLA Europe recognises the work that Europa Nostra is doing in establishing a European strategy for cultural heritage and to the mainstreaming of cultural heritage in EU policies and actions and making cultural heritage a European political priority.
