The competition
It is now the 16th competition since the first award in 1993. The subject is socially and ecologically oriented settlement and landscape development as well as contemporary open space planning. Ecological, social and economic challenges shape our time: progressive climate change, increasing scarcity of resources, massive loss of biodiversity. Increasingly high demands are being placed on the performance of the environment. Existing infrastructures are constantly being adapted to changing conditions with great effort, and entire systems have to be rebuilt. In addition to the ecological consequences, the social effects of climate change are becoming increasingly clear. Climate adaptation and climate protection are becoming imperative tasks. The quality of open spaces in town and country is of particular importance with regard to sustainability, intrinsic value, resource conservation and biodiversity. The development of climate-resilient open spaces and landscapes requires a fundamental rethink and visionary action at all planning levels.

The jury
Top-class judges , appointed by the bdla executive committee, guarantee an adequate assessment of the submitted projects.

The award ceremony
The award will be presented during an evening ceremony on September 15, 2023 in Berlin. The bdla publishes the award-winning and nominated works in a competition documentation.
