IMLA
The International Master’s programme of Landscape Architecture (IMLA) is a cooperation between two well-known universities in Germany since 2001:
HfWU - Nürtingen-Geislingen University (near Stuttgart)
HSWT - Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (near Munich)
Admission requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Planning, Architecture, Urban Planning or a related discipline with a planning and spatial relevance
Duration of studies
3 semesters (90 EC) or 4 semesters (120 EC) depending on the previous qualification
Academic qualification
Master of Engineering (M.Eng.)
Language of instruction - English (level B2 (CEFR) required with the application)
Location of studies - Alternates annually between the cities Nürtingen and Freising (Weihenstephan) depending on the year of the application
Application deadline - Each year by 15 November
Programme start - March of the year following the application deadline (summer semester)
Course Contents
IMLA follows the definition coined by ECLAS, the European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools:
‘Landscape architecture as a field of professional activity, and an academic discipline, is concerned with the shaping of landscapes at various scales. Core competences of landscape architecture centre on the process of intervention in landscapes to create new or revitalised places, by means of landscape planning, design and management, as well as by project implementation.’

Students benefit from international online seminars with guest speakers from all over Europe. Advanced e-learning methods as well as a modern e-learning management system support effective studies.
