Post event press release
The Webinar on 26th May 2023 was the third of the webinar series started 2022 on the recognition of landscape architecture profession in Europe.
After welcome words to the Webinar from IFLA Europe President Katerina Gkoltsiou, the Webinar was introduced by Didier Vancutsem, IFLA Europe Vice President for Professional Practice. He presented the speakers and the topic of the Webinar, focusing on the CTF and the state of the profession from United Kingdom and Latvia, and invited Jeroen De Vries, LE:Notre/InnoLAND and Prof Gintaras Stauskis, InnoLAND project, Professor at VILNIUS TECH to deliver their latest developments of the CTF Common Training Framework for landscape architects. In their presentation, they highlighted the latest development of Common Training Framework for Landscape Architecture and the feedback from National Associations. The current CTF draft is the basis for ECLAS and IFLA Europe documents for education and professional practice, and it will form a benchmark for landscape architecture education and professional recognition to be used by peer review panels for accreditation and professional recognition of LA programmes. As next steps, IFLA Europe is working together with ECLAS, Le:Notre Institute and Innoland partners to communicate with DG GROW for the establishment of the CTF as a delegated act. After a short Q&A session, Naomi Taylor, Landscape Institute Head of Membership Services, presented the current state of the profession in the United Kingdom and its professional practice. Naomi presented the history of the Landscape Institute, the membership grades, the landscape skills, and competences as they represent a major part of the UK economy. Her presentation was followed by Indra Purs, LAAA Latvia President, who presented the current professional situation in Latvia. Indra presented the history of the national association of Latvian landscape architects, described the certification of qualification of landscape architects, and the process of certification – related to the ESCO codes.
After a lively discussion, Didier Vancutsem thanked all speakers and participants for their contributions as well as constructive and harmonious discussion and concluded this webinar with an invitation to join the next General Assembly in October in Naples. The recordings of the Webinar are available as usual on the IFLA Europe website.
