Krzysztof Herman Krzysztof Herman

My name is Krzysztof Herman. I am a Polish landscape architect, assistant professor at Warsaw University of Life Sciences.

I obtained my MA in 2006, PhD in 2012 from Warsaw University of Life Sciences (WULS-SGGW) and I have been teaching landscape architecture there for the last fourteen years.

Through my academic career I have been actively expanding my experience through international research scholarships at Harvard Graduate School of Design (Fulbright Scholarship), University of Algarve in Portugal as well as teaching in Turkey and Serbia. My most recent International endeavour has taken me to Victoria University of Wellington, where I am currently a visiting researcher.

My research in recent years had focused on:

- tactical urbanism, temporary interventions, urban prototyping and low-budget strategies in landscape architecture

- community-led, participatory landscape design/planning and place-making

- well-being and active ageing in public space

While working as a lecturer and researcher, I have been involved in various fields of professional practice. My professional practical training started at Kylemore Abbey Gardens in Ireland where as a student intern I was involved in restoration, planning and gardening. Later on, I practiced as a freelance landscape architect, journalist and graphic designer. I co-founded “On Site” Foundation for local communities, and worked as a moderator, expert and designer in several successful participatory projects. In the last three years I had been regularly contracted by a well-respected architecture office, WXCA ,to work with them on competition entries, conceptual design and early stage project documentation. This collaboration has proven fruitful. During that time we won two of the most important landscape architecture competitions in Poland (Warsaw Central Park revitalisation; Warsaw Vistula river boulevards) as well as secured some second and third place awards. I am a well regarded expert on green infrastructure and have been working with several offices within Warsaw City Council, serving as a member of Participatory Budget Council and expert working on the actualisation of the 2030 Development Strategy of the City of Warsaw.
