Grazing Cattle

The photo was taken in the outskirts of the town of Chiva, Spain, characterised by a dry-land farming system, with notable presence of algarrobo (Certaonia siliqua), olive groves, almond trees, mixed with vineyards, abandoned plots, dense stands of pine and small groves of scrub land. There are accounts of this zone, referred to as the Llano Brihuela, as being the ‘last dehesa’ of Valencia (Asociation Cultural Centro de Estudios Chivanos, 2020à. A dehesa is a multifunctional agrosyvopastoral system that is a mixture of woodland and grassland.
